My name is Allen Bradford. I grew up in Lakewood, Colorado, in 1998 I moved to South Portland, Maine, and in 2020 I moved back to Colorado because of my wife’s declining health. My wife died on October 3, 2025, only 5 days from our 31st anniversary.
My Christian background started in the Methodist church, and when I was in third grade our family changed to the Nazarene church. In my 20’s I made the move to non-denominational. I turned my life over to Christ in junior high school and while it hasn’t been easy to keep up with a daily bible study I have continued to read but I haven’t kept a journal until recently.
As far as my neurodivergence, I have ADHD, diagnosed in May of 2023, and since then I have learned I autistic and have alexithymia. I was always different. Family, friends, and teachers have made comments throughout the years, and they couldn’t figure out why I could read Shakespear in 5th grade but my grades were horrible because of my test scores, late homework, and my constant loss of attention in class. After my mom left us in 1973 I visited a child psychiatrist, and because of her comments I started masking my unusual traits to try to fit in. That’s over 50 years of masking. It wasn’t for another 20 years before psychiatry started being able properly diagnose ADHD. I was already out of high school by then so I had no training.
Since My first diagnosis I have spent hours daily learning whatever I can about ADHD and autism. I have learned a lot and am now starting to speak out against the ignorance about our differences.
Before you ask, neurodivergence has been around since the beginning of time, and the Bible does agree, and my family history, on my mom’s side shows it’s always been there.
Thank you and I look forward to future blog posts.
